Conceptual Design for the Cope House Grounds

The Cope House Grounds of the Awbury Arboretum surround the historic home that currently house the Arboretum headquarters including administrative offices, educational programming, events, and interpretative historic resources. A new conservation easement grant from Natural Lands Trust protects the cultural and natural resource of the Arboretum while permitting thoughtful development of the Cope House Grounds in support of contemporary improvements to assure the institution’s sustainability. With a foundation in historic research, site analysis, and inventory of current institutional and community needs, the design proposes improved arrival, an extensive pathway network, events terrace, modest pavilion venue, and plantings to define views, create special places, and establish an authentic identity for the Awbury.
