Fairmount Park Centennial District Master Plan*
FAIRMOUNT PARK CONSERVANCY | Philadelphia
The Centennial District in west Fairmount Park is over 700 acres and home of the 1876 Centennial Exhibition. The Master Plan sets forth a long term vision to create a regional destination with existing venues: the Philadelphia Zoo, the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, the Horticulture Center, and the Please Touch Museum. The Master Plan, developed from community-inspired principles, recommends modifying significant roadways to unify landscapes, providing more space for recreational fields and neighborhood amenities along Parkside Avenue. Unifying the entire park is a 5K recreational trail that parallels roadwork already in place and provides access to the most beautiful parts of the park meandering through ravines and valleys. Neighborhood resources located along the edge invite residents to use the park on a daily basis. Current programming and improvement efforts by the Fairmount Park Conservancy embrace many of the master plan ideas.
